5 Tips On How To Work From Home

In light of the current circumstances and national lockdown, many of us are fortunate enough to work from home.

Working at home definitely has its pros and cons. The freedom of doing so is great but it also comes with the responsibility of ensuring your own productivity, workload and lets be real, sanity.

Here are a 5 tips to make the most out of your day whilst working from home...

1) Wake up early

Having a lie in is very tempting but you must practice self discipline. Wake up for your normal work hours in order to maintain normalcy and routine. If you are not a morning person or there are other commitments you have, adjust accordingly. 

2) Plan ahead

Routine is key. I recommend creating and committing to a schedule, perhaps in the form of a to do list or timetable. By doing so you can manage your time, expectations and visually see what is done and what needs to be done.

Personally, I like ticking off tasks on my daily to do list and then planning the following day and week so I can plan and prioritise appropriately. It also allows me to acknowledge the achievements I have accomplished, bringing a sense of stability and certainty back even in these chaotic times.

3) Optimal workspace

Create a suitable work space  in your own home whether that be in the dining room or guest bedroom. Find somewhere relatively quiet to work away from places you associate with relaxation.This will help mentally as you are stepping into a new, productive mindset. Open a window to let in fresh, natural air and light so you feel good. Additionally, dress casually and comfortably for the same effect. 

4) Create healthy habits

It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. For the sake of your physical and mental health, take some time out of the day and prioritise keeping active.

Keep active, be that in the form of going on a walk or following a Youtube workout video. Do your best to eat clean and keep hydrated. We have more than enough time to plan ahead and meal prep. 

5) Take short breaks, often

Whether it be a small tea break, a quick read of your favourite book or a peaceful walk outside for some fresh air - take a break. This whole situation is most certainly unique, so it is okay to feel unnerved. Take breaks often when needed, so you can return to your workplace refreshed
